Laivaranta Passenger Harbour and Waterfront Recreation Area

2026

Development plan

Ruovesi, Finland

The development plan for Laivaranta in Ruovesi aims to create a welcoming, safe and coherent waterfront that builds on the area’s existing character while introducing new services and places to gather. The design takes a pedestrian-oriented approach, placing the experience of moving through, spending time in and enjoying the waterfront at its centre.

Existing buildings, activities and landscape features form the foundation of the plan. The protected Makasiini building, Restaurant Styyrpuuri, Makasiinikahvila, the restaurant boat and diving tower are retained as defining elements of the area. Existing piers, boat sheds, play areas and sports facilities remain in use, while new connections and gathering spaces strengthen the relationship between them and bring renewed life to the waterfront.
