The Loviisanpässi Pedestrian Bridge in Lahti connects Vesijärvenkatu with the services located on the Kaupunginsairaalan mäki, crossing the green corridor of Loviisanpässinraitti. The design places timber at the heart of the architecture. A load-bearing glulam structure and timber railings give the bridge a light, tactile presence and allow it to sit naturally within the surrounding landscape.

The gently meandering form establishes a sequence of changing spatial experiences: from below, the bridge appears as a slender path weaving through the trees; on the bridge, pedestrians rise into the canopy and become immersed in the surrounding vegetation. The bridge is carefully positioned and founded to preserve the existing vegetation and minimise its impact on the site

Resource efficiency, longevity and repairability are fundamental to the design. The prefabricated timber structure is conceived for a long service life, while its accessible and replaceable components support straightforward maintenance and future repair.
